19th C Longcase clock Xavier Ganz Swansea

A really attractive Longcase clock by Xavier Ganz dates from the latter part of the 19th century. Xavier Ganz originated from Germany and settled in Swansea where he continued his trade as a clock and watch maker. What makes this clock particularly attractive is the use of light oak and mulberry wood in the case, the hood door is also mulberry and has a swan neck pediment.

The face is also very well decorated; the top has a hand painted scene of ships and to the corners are castles. The face itself is white with large roman numerals to the chapter ring, there is also a supplementary second dial and an arch shaped aperture for the day of the month. The hands are ornate brass.

The movement of the clock is an 8 day movement, has recently been serviced and is in good working order, striking the hours onto a bell and is complete with pendulum and 2 weights
