Harper of Salop circa 1700 and later longcase grandfather clock 8 day movement 

 

 

A 30 hour Longcase clock movement by Harper and Son of Salop (Shrewsbury), Thomas Harper known to have made clocks from the mid 1700s and his son Richard joined him as an apprentice in 1748. Hence the movement is dates around 1760. The dial is made of a traditional brass construction with ornate spandrels to the corners and a silvered chapter ring, engraved with Harper & Son Salop to the lower outer edge. 

 

The centre of the dial is in brass and has a relief with a date dial also in a silvered finish. The hands are of a metal contraction. The movement is a 30 hour chain drive two train movement striking on a bell. The movement is in good order and has recently been services. The clock does not come with weight or pendulum.
